In this talk, Field Brown considers the complicated relationship Black students’ often have with the university, using his own time at Mississippi State and his family history as a starting point. Furthermore, he provides a brief history of the original purpose of Black History Month, and the importance of Medgar Evers and Margaret Walker in civil rights history in Mississippi.
