Rebecca C. Smith, Ph.D., is a community economist for the MSU Extension Service and housed in the Dept. Of Agricultural Economics. The goal of her work is to improve assets for individuals, families, firms, and communties in Mississippi. Her research interest is improving comprehension and application of economics and personal finance so that citizens improve their ability to think critically, analyze data accurately, and improve local decison-making. Her programs include career and college exploration, Real World budget simulation, credit building and homebuyer education, understanding poverty and privilege, adult and youth financial wellness, public deliberation, and the Master Teacher in Economics. Dr. Smith provides strengths-based group facilitation processes for individuals, firms, communities, and regions across Mississippi. As an affiliate of the Kettering Foundation, Dr. Smith leads public deliberations to improve democratic practices within communities.
