Information - [ Honors College Forum ]
Honors students may enrich their studies and their knowledge of MSU events by taking the Honors Forum, a one-hour, pass-fail class that meets every Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Dr. Nancy McCarley, Shackouls Honors College director, leads the Forum, and invites a large variety of business and professional leaders, scholars, and artists who discuss, perform, or entertain questions from the audience regarding their professions or hobbies. Recent examples include novelist Jonathan Odell, blues guitarist Jesse Robinson, and a guided tour of Noxubee Wildlife Refuge.
Considering the small amount of time that it requires, Forum offers many benefits. Any Honors student can earn either Phase I or Phase II by taking Forum in combination with other Honors courses. Many students announce campus events; thus, Forum students have an increased awareness of opportunities to get involved at MSU. Forum provides the chance for Honors students to meet other students with similar interests.
Though Forum is not a difficult course, it is very stimulating. The point of Honors Forum is to introduce Honors students to academic experiences to which they might not otherwise be exposed. The course requirements include three papers for UHP 1081/1091 and four papers for UHP 2081/2091.
