Information - [ Eligibility ]
Students who show promise of meeting the high academic standards of the Shackouls Honors College will be admitted. Students are admitted based on several criteria: high school GPA, class rank, standardized test scores, a record of academic and extracurricular involvement as shown on the MSU online scholarship resume, and an application essay. No one factor alone is sufficient for admission. The typical Honors College freshman achieved approximately a 30 ACT composite score and a 3.8 high school GPA.
For transfer or upper-level students seeking to join, a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.4 is required for admission.
In order to retain full privileges of the Honors College, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 and enroll in at least one graded, three-hour Honors course per calendar year.
If your cumulative GPA does happen to fall below 3.4, you will lose priority preregistration status and be restricted to taking Honors courses only in the core areas in which you have a GPA of 3.4 or above. For example, if your cumulative GPA is a 3.0 but your GPA in math is still 3.4 or above, then you still can enroll in an Honors math class. Of course, you will be fully reinstated to the Honors College and have all privileges returned immediately upon obtaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA. No record of your losing Honors privileges ever exists outside the Honors College, and the notation is permanently removed once you regain a 3.4.
